What can be used to pull an AcrEase Pull Behind Rough Cut Mower?
Most AcrEase Pull Behind Rough Cut Mowers are towed behind ATVs and utility vehicles, but customers also use small tractors, pick-up trucks, and SUVs. Most any 350cc ATV and larger will pull one without trouble. On hilly or steep terrain a larger 4-wheel drive ATV may be necessary.
How steep of a slope can it handle?
Briggs & Stratton Professional/Intek engines should not be used on angles greater than 20 degrees. Kohler and B&S Commercial Turf engines are rated for up to 25 degrees. Note: most slopes appear steeper than they are - a 25-30 degree bank typically looks like 45 degrees.
How fast will it mow?
Mowing speed depends on vegetation type and deck height. In general, expect 4-10 MPH. Exceptionally heavy conditions may slow it further.
Why does the deck pull at an angle?
The twin blades are in a straight line and not timed. To achieve the necessary blade overlap, the deck is pulled at a slight angle. This is by design.
How easy is it to switch from offset to direct-behind mowing?
Very easy - no tools required. Unhitch, unpin the tongue, flip it over, re-pin, and re-hitch. Can be done in under 1 minute.
What type of hitch does it use?
AcrEase Pull Behind Rough Cut Mowers use a standard farm clevis, not a ball hitch. A ball hitch is restricted to 12 degrees of motion; the clevis provides full freedom of motion in all directions needed for uneven terrain.
Can it double as a finish cut mower?
Yes. Many customers use it as a dual-purpose mower. The blade style and twin blade design allow it to do a surprisingly nice job on finish cut lawns.
How long do drive belts last?
A properly adjusted belt on a manual clutch version commonly lasts 75-100+ hours. On the electric clutch version, belt life can exceed 200 hours.
What happens if a large rock is struck?
The heavy deck and blade spindles are designed to prevent bending under large impacts. The engine may stall on direct impact. Blades typically show only mild denting. In all testing, no object has ever prevented the mower from continuing to operate, including partially buried rocks over 100 lbs.
Does it use shear pins or slip clutches?
No. These features are unnecessary on a belt-driven pull-behind mower. The belt drive slips under severe situations, which itself prevents engine damage.
How large of saplings will it cut?
Rated for 2-inch diameter saplings. Capable of larger, but getting a bigger sapling bent under the deck is not practical with most tow vehicles.
What advantage does the four-tire design provide?
Four tires allow the mower to float over rough uneven ground more easily, use a free-pivoting tongue for traversing steep ditches, and place tires within the deck width for a trim edge on both sides of the cut.
